Do you carry a smart phone or tablet with you on the road? There are several apps on the market that can truly help with planning, productivity, and budgets, but with so many to choose from, it may be difficult to find ones that are most useful. We’ve developed a list of 10 essential apps for truck owner-operators:

1. Trucker Tools

Overdrive Magazine’s Trucker Tools app is free for both iPhones and iPads. It gives you real-time traffic info, turn-by-turn directions, weigh scale status, nearest truck stops, weather conditions, and more.

2. CamScanner

This free Android- and Apple- compatible app essentially turns your phone’s camera into a portable scanner, allowing you to scan and log your bills of lading, rate sheets, and forms.

3. BigRoad Logbook

This free Android app allows truckers to update their logbooks electronically, eliminate miscalculation and improve accuracy while adhering to FMCSA rules and regulations.

4. My DAT Trucker Services

A free app for Androids, My DAT Trucker Services shows you nearby truck stops, travel plazas, diesel prices, truck-friendly hotels and services, rest stops, and CAT Scales.

5. uFollowIt

For $1.99, you can capture, manage, submit, and track your paperwork through your iPhone or iPad with this user-friendly app. eCapital clients can also submit requests for advances through this app.

6. GasBuddy

This app allows users to find the cheapest diesel fuel in a current location. It’s free and available on both Apple and Android products.

7. FleetSafer Mobile

Eliminate the temptation to text while driving with this Android app. It blocks texting, emailing, and browsing and automatically respond to texts and emails with an “I’m driving” message.

8. Copilot Live Truck

This Android and Apple app is the first of its kind with voice-guided, truck-specific GPS navigation for professional drivers, featuring industry-standard PC*MILER routing.

9. Skype

Keep in touch with family, friends, and colleagues by video chatting with this free Apple and Android app.

10. iheartradio

Free and available on both Apple and Androids, the iHeartRadio app allows you to listen to your favorite radio stations, or create your own.
