eCapital UK, has appointed John Nelson as Managing Director, UK, as the business accelerates its next phase of growth.
The appointment follows a period of sustained growth and success for eCapital UK. Over the past three years, the business has increased funds advanced to clients by 46%, helping more SMEs and mid-sized businesses access the flexible working capital they need to invest, expand and build resilience.
John joins eCapital with more than 38 years’ experience in financial services, including almost two decades specialising in receivables finance and asset-based lending. Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions spanning corporate banking, risk, portfolio management and commercial leadership, building a strong reputation for delivering sustainable growth and leading high-performing teams.
John will assume the role of Managing Director UK, working alongside David Tilling, who will transition from CEO to become “Executive Chair” over the coming months ensuring a smooth handover of executive responsibilities while continuing to support the long-term strategic direction of the business; its culture and strengthening their partnership and projects with their US parent company.
As Managing Director, John will oversee the day-to-day leadership of the UK business, working alongside the executive team to deliver eCapital’s strategic ambitions, enhance client experience and drive continued growth across its specialist funding solutions.
The appointment comes at a time when many SMEs face a widening funding gap, with traditional lenders retrenching from parts of the market and businesses increasingly seeking more flexible sources of working capital.
eCapital provides flexible working capital solutions that help businesses unlock cash tied up in unpaid invoices, supporting growth, investment and resilience. Through its invoice finance and asset-based lending expertise, they work with businesses across a broad range of sectors, delivering funding solutions tailored to their individual needs. Backed by the strength and scale of the wider eCapital group, the UK business has ambitious plans to continue growing its client base, invest in its people and capabilities, and expand its market share while continuing to build on the high levels of service and specialist expertise for which it is known.
Commenting on the appointment, David Tilling said: “John is an exceptional leader with extensive experience across financial services and a deep understanding of the receivables finance and asset-based lending market. His strategic insight, commercial expertise and collaborative leadership style make him the ideal person to lead the UK business through its next chapter. His appointment reflects continuity rather than change. Our strategy, commitment to the market and focus on delivering exceptional outcomes for clients and introducers remain firmly in place.
The business has built tremendous momentum in recent years, growing its client base by more than 32% over the last three years while expanding into larger and more sophisticated funding transactions. Facilities of up to £6 million are now an increasingly important part of our offering, reflecting the strength of our proposition and the confidence our clients place in us. As I transition into the role of Executive Chair, I do so with complete confidence that John and the leadership team will build on this success and deliver the next stage of our growth strategy.”
John Nelson added: “I am delighted to be joining eCapital UK at such an exciting point in its journey. The business has established an excellent reputation in the market, underpinned by a talented team, strong client relationships and the backing of a strong parent.
“There is a significant opportunity to continue growing our presence in the UK by helping more businesses access the flexible funding they need to thrive. Developing relationships with valued introducers will also remain a key focus as the business continues to expand. I look forward to working with colleagues across the business to build on the company’s success and deliver the next phase of growth.”
As part of the leadership transition, John will also join the UK Board. The business is also aligning executive titles with its US parent company, with Mark Finn becoming Chief Revenue Officer.
The appointment reinforces eCapital UK’s commitment to investing in its leadership team as it continues to expand its offering, deepen client relationships and strengthen its position as one of the UK’s leading specialist finance providers.
